- Description
- Attributes the copying of British Library, MS Cotton Appendix XVI ("Statuta Angliae") and nineteen Chancery documents to Richard Sotheworth, whose will records the earliest known ownership of a CT manuscript. Uses these and related documents to identify a complicated "network" of Chancery clerks in late medieval England, exploring their books and affiliations, their "material, cultural, and intellectual aspirations," and their "worldly cosmopolitanism" as a "rising upper middle bureaucratic class."
