- Description
- Edited oral dialogue.
- It can be difficult to be sure what is "realistic" and what "typical," "idealized," or traditionally "patterned" in Chaucer's work, especially when "realism" of different degrees and types is often woven into a formal structure which is anything but realistic in intent. Irony, comic exaggeration, moral structure, and convention qualify what we can see of character development and realistic content.
