- Description
- Presents a "new way to conjoin Chaucer's sophisticated engagement with philosophical thought and his obvious focus on amatory concerns" in CT, arguing that the narrative "authoritatively abandons authority"--a paradox that recalls logical "insolubilia," connects with the "philosophical antinomy of realism and nominalism," and engages the Christian incarnational fusion of creator and created. Neither ironic nor inconsistent, the rigorously logical CT--insoluble rather than enigmatic or analogical--asserts the paradox of love, depicts efforts to accept or resolve paradox in each of the tales, and enjoins readers to accept paradox without judgment or resolution, leaving Chaucer's "ultimate intention undecidable."
