The Reeve's Polemic.
- Published
- Wascana Review 2.1 (1967): 62-73.
- Description
- Explores the "really profound difference" between the Reeve and the Miller, commenting on the Miller's rich characterizations in MilT and the vitality and "kind of justice" that underlies the outcome of his Tale. RvT, conversely, is an unwholesome "polemic" with "sterile vengefulness" as its primary motive and a "lack of parity in crime and punishment" that reveals the bitterness Reeve who is "forever calculating," the "eternal accountant."
