- A textbook edition of selections from TC in Middle English (some 5000 lines), with an introduction and end-of-text commentary and glossary. Much of Book 4 is excluded (its Prologue of is included), and other passages reduced slightly. The Introduction (pp. xiii-liii) describes and discusses the "story-teller" (narrator), sources. the characters, structure and rhetoric, tragedy, various themes and topics (love, destiny, astrology, mythology), Chaucer's life, dating and manuscripts, and the language and verse of the poem.
