- Description
- Chaganti explores the "dialectical interaction between inscription and performance" that underlines the "poetics of enshrinement" in medieval visual art, literature, and discourse on representation. Individual chapters address "Saint Erkenwald," the N-Town "Assumption," "Pearl," PardT, and the brief lyric "In 8 is alle my love." Chapter 5, "Reliquaries of the Mind: Figuration, Enshrinement, and Performance in the Pardoner's Tale" (pp. 131-53), presents PardT as a "self-enshrining performance," structured in a way that occludes differences between utterance and description of utterance. Chaganti also comments on the lyric "I" in BD and on the enshrining imagination in BD and HF.
