- Description
- Boehler employs the concept of "shame culture" (which emphasizes satisfaction and honor over personal happiness, or even survival) as a means to examine medieval heroes (including those in KnT.) Ultimately, shame culture contributes not only to the death of heroes but also to the death of their societies; it is eventually supplanted by "guilt culture," as seen in "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight."
