Description
French poetic translation of the complete The Canterbury Tales that maintains approximate pentameter but eschews rhyme. In the introduction (pp. 5-19), Crépin argues that Chaucer uses a Socratic method in his deliberate contradictions and that he leaves his lessons open-ended. The apparatus includes a chronology, brief bibliography, explanatory notes (pp. 700-66), and an index of proper names. Also includes as an afterword a translation of G. K. Chesterton's chapter on The Canterbury Tales from his Chaucer (1932).
