- Edition of Rom based on Glasgow University Library MS Hunter 409 and the 1532 printed edition of William Thynne, with collated variants from subsequent editions through The Riverside Chaucer and notes variorum through 1990. Emendations are guided by the French original of the poem. "Critical Commentary" addresses questions of authorship (focusing on Chaucer's role), date of composition, the nature of the translation, and issues of style. It also includes an evaluation of Chaucer's use of the Roman de la Rose throughout his works. "Textual Commentary" describes the manuscript and the relations among editions.
