Title
Chaucer, Joyce, Lacan, and Their 'We-Men'

Published
Dissertation Abstracts International 58 (1998): 2669A.

Description
Both Chaucer and Joyce are incapable of depicting women because the language they use is solipsisticly male and logocentric.
Liang uses the theories of Jacques Lacan and Jacques Derrida to explore the intrinsic ambiguity of logocentrism, the interpenetrability it prompts, and analogies between such interpenetrability and incest.

Chaucer Subjects
Background and General Criticism.
