- Physical Description
- 2nd ed. xiv, 426 pp.
- Description
- A "radical revision" (xi) of Brewer's 1984 "Introduction to Chaucer" (SAC 8 [1986], no. 55a); like its predecessor, a general introduction intended for specialists and first-time readers of Chaucer alike. Carried over from the first edition, the biographical and social history is retained largely intact.
- The expanded discussions of Chaucer's works are marked by Brewer's interests in social anthropology and his belief in what is "common to human nature." Brewer views Chaucer as a great artist and a sensitive and humane person.
- Chaucer Subjects
- Background and General Criticism.
