- Description
- Statistical analyses, including charted data, of variant readings of CT in (1) a given single tale in pairs of manuscripts; and (2) paired tales in single manuscripts.
- Linear and multiple correlation tests, cluster analysis, and factor analysis are applied to the manuscripts published within ten years of Chaucer's death, with Hengwrt serving as base text.
- The conclusions drawn include (1) the likelihood that, late in Chaucer's lifetime, Hengwrt was produced from Chaucer's originals; (2) archetypes of extent manuscript groups were commercially produced shortly after Chaucer's death; and (3) independent manuscripts other than Hengwrt were produced by noncommercial scribes.
