Internal Evidence of Formulaic Diction in 'The Canterbury Tales'

- Description
- Though CT was neither orally prepared nor heavily alliterative, traces of both traditions are present in the work. The oral tradition almost certainly influenced Chaucer's work more predominantly. The evidence of formulaic diction in CT is strong; and it is shown that Chaucer relied on formulaic diction to the same degree at both the beginning and the end of his writing career.
