The French Lyric Element in 'Troilus and Criseyde'
- Published
- Yearbook of English Studies 15 (1985): 18-32.
- Description
- TC has fifty-six developed lyric passages. The frequent ballade-like sequences of stanzas in these passages and the rhyme-royal form adapted from the ballade, together with Chaucer's uses of Machaut's "Remede de Fortune," show that TC has an important ancestry in the French "dits amoureux" that incorporated "formes fixes" lyrics.
