- Description
- Two CT manuscripts reveal simplifications of Chaucerian narrative as part of the fifteenth-century reader response valuing sententiousness and formal coherence. Huntington Library MS 140 includes ClT without its framing references, followed immediately by "Truth." The Helmington manuscript abridges Mel, omits the theoretical material in Th-MelL, and eliminates many of the complicating asides and digressions in PardT. Relevant passages from the manuscripts appear in an appendix.
