The Narrators in the 'Book of the Duchess' and the 'Parlement of Foules'
- Published
- Chaucer Review 26 (1992): 219-35.
- Description
- The narrator of the dream poems is not a consistent character,as previously thought, but a progressive one, embodying Chaucer's later preoccupation with experience versus authority. The narrator of BD is a doer; that of PF, a reader. Their one-sidedness makes them comic and ineffectual.
