In 1987, an NEH-supported institute titled "Chaucer's Canterbury Tales: Medieval Contexts and Modern Responses" addressed concerns that Chaucer's poetry was disappearing from the "standard undergraduate curriculum" and discussed ways to "revivify" approaches to teaching Chaucer.
