- Assesses "various appearances of the narrator" in CT to "determine how far the narrator can be taken as a contribution to our knowledge of Geoffrey Chaucer." Comments most extensively on GP and ThP, with attention to first-person pronouns, and on similarities between the CT narrator and those of other works by Chaucer, concluding that in CT "Chaucer does not seem to have been much interested in his narrator, much less to have been trying to express through him his own personality."
