A Period in the Development of the "Canterbury Tales" Marriage Group and of Blocks B2 and C.
- Published
- PMLA 68, no. 5 (1953): 1142–59.
- Description
- Argues on textual and thematic grounds that Mel, NPT, and ClT "antedate the conception of a Marriage Group," Chaucer linking them to it as an "afterthought." Also traces a "fairly extensive ordering and linking operation, resulting in the construction of Blocks B2 [7] and C [3] and in the addition of new features to the character of Harry Bailly," occurring at about the same time. Includes general comments about various orderings of the CT and the tales included in the Marriage Group.
